For parents & caregivers

A seizure diary for parents and caregivers

When you track seizures for someone you love — a child, a partner, a parent — you carry two jobs at once: caring in the moment and remembering everything afterwards. Epilepsy Mate is a seizure tracker for parents and caregivers that keeps the remembering part simple.

Built for the way caregivers actually track

The person having the seizure often cannot remember it. You are the witness — the app is shaped around that.

Log what you witnessed

Record duration, what the seizure looked like, warning signs and how recovery went — even when the person you care for remembers nothing. Your observation is exactly what the neurologist needs.

Kid mode

A simplified logging screen lets older children take part in their own diary with a couple of taps, while you keep the full picture on your side.

Medication alarms for the whole routine

Set an alarm for every dose in the daily routine — morning, school day, evening — so a missed dose gets noticed right away instead of discovered later.

Doctor-ready reports

Turn months of entries into a clean summary and share it with the care team as a PDF or a secure, read-only link before every appointment.

Quick-log from the wrist

During a seizure your hands are full. Two taps on Apple Watch or Wear OS timestamp the moment; you complete the details later. Epilepsy Mate does not detect, predict or alert on seizures — logging always stays in your hands.

For the moment itself: stay with the person, keep them safe, time the seizure — and call emergency services if it lasts longer than 5 minutes.

School & daycare

Give teachers and school nurses clear information

A child with epilepsy spends much of the day in someone else’s care. Teachers and school nurses do their best work when they know what a typical seizure looks like, what to do, and when to call for help — written down, not remembered from a hallway conversation. A written plan plus an up-to-date report from the diary means everyone works from the same information.

Caring for the caregiver

You cannot pour from an empty cup. Caregiver exhaustion is real, common and nothing to be ashamed of — and noticing it early makes you a steadier support. These guides are written for the person holding the diary:

Questions from parents and caregivers

Can two people log to the same diary?

The diary lives in one Epilepsy Mate account, and that account stays in sync on every device it is signed in on — there are no separate caregiver logins yet. Many families simply keep the diary in the caregiver’s account. To keep grandparents, teachers or the care team informed, share a doctor-ready report as a PDF or a secure read-only link.

Can my child log their own seizures?

Older children can take part through kid mode, a simplified logging screen with just the essentials. Many families make it a shared habit: the child logs what they felt, and you add what you observed from the outside. Reviewing the diary together also helps children understand their own epilepsy.

Does the watch app detect seizures?

No. Epilepsy Mate does not detect, predict or alert on seizures, and it must not be relied on for safety monitoring. The watch app is only a faster way for you to log a seizure by hand the moment it happens. If your family needs seizure monitoring, ask your medical team about dedicated medical devices.

What should I write down when I witness a seizure?

Time it first — knowing the real duration matters, and a seizure lasting longer than 5 minutes is an emergency that needs an ambulance. Then note what you saw: how it started, which parts of the body were involved, whether awareness was lost, and how long recovery took. In Epilepsy Mate each of these has its own field, so nothing gets lost.
